CEDARA SOFTWARE TO SHOWCASE INNOVATIVE TOOLS FOR HEALTHCARE IT PROVIDERS TO INTEGRATE IMAGE DATA WITH CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION AT HIMSS CONFERENCE

  • Cedara to introduce innovative new tools that provide integrators, IT consultants information solution providers and other OEM’s with tight integration between image data and multiple clinical information sources on a single desktop
  • Cedara to support diagnostic visualization from any data source through web enabled solution, Cedara I-Reach™
  • Innovative tools to include C4, a leading edge framework for integration of clinical imaging information into enterprise applications.

Toronto, ON, February 9, 2006 – Cedara Software, a Merge Healthcare company (Nasdaq: MRGE; TSX: MRG) and a leading independent developer of medical software technologies for the global healthcare market, today announced plans to showcase innovative tools for Healthcare IT Providers to help provide tight integration between image data and multiple clinical information sources on a single desktop, throughout a single enterprise, or from disparate sources across the globe at the 2006 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference.

A major challenge for healthcare professionals is the need to access comprehensive patient information on a single workstation from isolated information systems. This includes medical images from PACS installations, data from other clinical areas such as cardiology and lab results, as well as enterprise information systems (HIS), which are often needed by medical practitioners to fully support diagnostic decision-making for a patient. Cedara’s portfolio of software tools are designed to help solve this challenge at multiple levels throughout the healthcare enterprise by displaying comprehensive patient data on any desktop; enabling integration of any information source in a medical facility; and help include diagnostic images and information into enterprise EMR solutions through multi site information access.

Part of this innovative new approach to workflow includes a new structure for managing advanced visualization. A common challenge experienced by practitioners working in clinical environments comes from time wasted moving between different applications (and workstations) to perform routine image analysis of different diagnostic data. Cedara’s new Clinical Control Center (C4), provides a means to tightly integrate clinical functionality into a single workstation. Through the use of configurable protocols, healthcare professionals can use C4 to automatically launch independent viewing applications from a single patient worklist. For OEM companies, this capability allows seamless integration of third party clinical plug-ins. While C4 provides functional integration for clinical plug-ins from any vendor, it will be demonstrated at HIMSS with a host of advanced visualization solutions from Cedara, including Cedara PET/CT™, Cedara IllumiView™, Cedara OrthoWorks™, Cedara I-Response™, Cedara PrimeLung™ and Cedara CalScore™.

Building on a wealth of experience in medical imaging, Cedara will also demonstrate a variety of tools designed to help organizations implement standards established by HIPAA, IHE, DICOM and HL7. Cedara’s innovative connectivity tools include an innovative image application development platform, Cedara OpenEyes™; C4™ Clinical Desktop; MergePort™, a DICOM and HL7 workflow broker; Cedara’s medical workflow engine; Cedara I-Reach™, a web enabled diagnostic workstation; and Cedara aXigate™, a clinical information system. These tools are uniquely designed to establish dynamic connections to any data source throughout the healthcare enterprise, either individually or in combination. Using leading edge architecture and built with XML, Java and AJAX interfaces, Cedara’s technology allows Healthcare IT professionals to leverage existing information systems through a middleware approach to information management.

“Cedara’s toolkit approach to integrating imaging data and clinical information significantly expands the value and availability of patient information,” said Brian Pedlar, President of Cedara Software. “Workflow, integration and information exchange represent an important piece of the solution for EMR, System Integrators and Process Management companies. Any Healthcare IT provider that wants to broaden imaging revenue opportunities within their customer base or is faced with the challenge of providing tight integration between image data and multiple clinical information sources on a single desktop will find these toolkits of value.”

Cedara Software, a leading independent developer of medical software technologies for the OEM marketplace, can be found at booth #7601 during HIMSS ’06 at the San Diego Convention Center.
