CEDARA AND SWISSRAY SIGN AGREEMENT TO DELIVER COMPREHENSIVE DIGITAL ORTHOPAEDIC SOLUTION TO HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

  • Swissray to market Cedara's OrthoWorks software as their orthopaedic solution
  • Agreement provides Swissray with Cedara's next generation orthopaedic workstation, Cedara OrthoWorks ProPlanner™, as part of their integrated solution for orthopaedic imaging
  • Offering to include powerful diagnostic review and planning functionality for joint arthroplasty, trauma, deformity corrections and more

Toronto, ON, May 1, 2006 – Cedara Software, a Merge Healthcare company (NASDAQ: MRGE; TSX: MRG) and a leading independent developer of medical software technologies for the global healthcare market, today announced an agreement with Swissray International where Swissray will distribute Cedara's new orthopaedic workstation, Cedara OrthoWorks ProPlanner, to their customers worldwide as part of an integrated solution with their Digital Radiography (DR) systems.

Swissray is a global leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of direct digital radiography – ddR - systems. The Orthopaedic community has been drawn to the value proposition that Swissray offers with the fastest and most automated low dose DR systems on the market. This agreement will allow Swissray to provide its customers with a complete solution for Orthopaedic imaging using next generation technology contained in OrthoWorks ProPlanner.

Ueli Laupper, Swissray Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing stated, "With over 500 Swissray DR systems sold we have always delivered the highest quality digital images, cost savings and efficiency in radiography. Swissray has focused on the Orthopaedic market for many years and fully understands the needs and challenges of orthopaedic imaging better than any other DR supplier. Our partnership with Cedara allows us to offer the most advanced orthopaedic software solutions available today."

Cedara's orthopaedic software provides support for deformity corrections, trauma and customized planning methodologies that mimic orthopaedic workflow which currently cannot be planned manually. In challenging deformity and trauma corrective cases for example, Image Cutting allows surgeons to digitally cut and reposition fractured bone fragments to visualize potential surgical changes. In converse circumstances, Image Stitching allows users to stitch together two or more images using a number of methods to ensure that cases requiring long film X-rays can still be digitally planned without the need for expensive stitching hardware. OrthoWorks ProPlanner also incorporates Cedara's ImageSnap Technology™, a unique capability that enables automatic measurements with suggested implant selection and placement.

"We are very excited about our new relationship with Swissray," said Brian Pedlar, President of Cedara Software. "The combination of Swissray's reputation for delivering the highest quality digital images, cost savings and efficiency combined with our orthopaedic solutions that provide a high level of flexibility to accommodate the work patterns of different surgeons, while still providing advanced diagnostic capabilities will bring a new level of flexibility, power and digital support to Swissray's customers worldwide."

###

Swissray has received from Frost & Sullivan the "Best Product Value" award for their market leading digital radiography systems. This new technology provides high quality medical radiographic images in seconds at a significantly lower cost than conventional or computed radiography because, among other factors, film, imaging plates, cassettes and chemical processing are not required. By utilizing a multifunctional single detector design, Swissray offers an affordable high quality solution for direct digital radiography. Swissray currently provides a full range of DR systems for orthopedic applications, imaging centers, hospitals and emergency departments. All of Swissray's DR systems include the APS™ – Automated Positioning System for fully automated, remote controlled system positioning. Swissray offers customers choice between amorphous silicon flat panel or their unique 16 bit Quad CCD detector technologies. For additional information visit www.swissray.com
